David Ellenbogen is a musician, producer, educator and a New York City radio host. As a guitarist and vocalist he has performed in The Kingdom of Tonga, Ghana, Australia, Thailand, India, and at home in New York.

With an open mind and approach he performs everything from Hendrix to Bach and incorporates world music styles that span continents and centuries. He has recorded with Kenny Wessel, Debashish Bhattacharya, Dave Dreiwitz of Ween and many others.

David also promotes and produces music of the finest musicians from all corners of the world. As a radio host he has featured live, in-studio performances from many Grammy winners including pipa player Wu Man, sitarist Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble.

After his first music pilgrimage, to Ghana, where he studied music and DJ'ed a radio show at a popular station, David earned a masters degree at Columbia University. When he graduated he was lured by their new Center for Jazz Studies and eventually became Programs Director, producing their concert series with artists like The Sun Ra Arkestra, Ravi Coltrane, and Bernice Regan. The success of this series caught the eye of legendary producer George Wein, the impresario who created the Newport Jazz Festival, the Newport Folk Festival and the country's biggest Jazzfest: the New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival.

David soon joined Wein and his company Festival Productions, Inc. He became the Associate Producer of the2001 JVC Jazz Festival - Miami Beach and the 2001 JVC Jazz Festival - Toronto which featured a wide scope of artists from Tony Bennett to Medeski, Martin and Wood. With Wein, David worked on dozens of other festivals nationally and internationally.

After a few years at Festival Productions, David left NYC to study and record music in various places across the globe. He studied gamelan in Bali, learned the folk music of Samoa, and performed mean blues in Thailand, but his studies were most formative in Calcutta, where he studied Raga on the Slide Guitar with guru Debashish Bhattacharya. He had the thrill of recording with Bhattacharya, who was recently nominated for a Grammy, and wrote the liner notes to his classic album "3:Calcutta Slide Guitar."

Today David is busy teaching, performing, DJ-ing and producing his radio shows on WKCR 89.9 FM-NY He is one of the founders and hosts of a new radio show at WKCR, "Ragas Live," which has already featured in-studio performances from many of the greatest maestros of Indian Classical music. His latest musical pilgrimage was to Brazil where he studied Afro-Brazilian rhythms and a recent performance highlight was at Joe's Pub where he combined forces with many of the pop stars from Iran for a celebration of the poet Rumi. He hopes to continue serving the music and is proud that many of his guitar students are now actively performing.
